What is Dog Listening?

Amichien Bonding

::

Amichien Bonding is the name of the method pioneered by Jan Fennell. It differs from other methods because it is a 'way of life' for you and your dog, rather than a training method just for your dog. It is based on observations of how wild dogs and wolves respond to the leadership of their alpha male & female leaders in their natural ‘pack’ environment. The concept being for owners (or carers - such as groomers, walkers, kennel staff) to replicate natural alpha leadership, and so be able to behave in ways that are meaningful for your dog to understand, and hence your dog is more likely to choose to follow your leadership willingly. It is the foundation on which you can build better obedience skills, and agility and show-ring performance, or just a more relaxed, well-mannered and happy household relationship.

Amichien Bonding is easy to do, but does require patience and persistence. It is never too late to start and differing breeds all respond well - you will finally be communicating with your dog in a behavioural ‘language’, which he or she already understands. However, it is not a ‘miracle cure’ and involves patient work, a consistent approach, and often the ‘rethinking’ of old habits and beliefs, which can be quite challenging.

The key point of differentiation is that with this method, there is absolutely no use of fear-based, aggressive or ‘dominance’ behaviour. There is also no use of force or violence (including no use of gadgets such as choker chains, restraint collars, electric shock or citronella anti-barking collars). The principle is for you to be calm, confident and in control at all times, and for your dog to be calm and relaxed, but very focused & responsive to your decisions and instructions. I can personally confirm that the outcome is a much more relaxed and loving relationship for all concerned, based on mutual respect.
