I
imagine you may have heard of the "power of positive thinking"
developed by Dale Carnegie to help people focus on self-improvement and
success? Carnegie, through his famous book How
to Win Friends and Influence People
and his courses (still run today), teaches that it is possible to
change other people's behaviour by changing our reactions to them.
Similarly, Dog
Listening is about tapping into the power of canine thinking and
understanding and developing canine communication. It's about winning
your dog's respect and friendship and establishing your ability to
influence your dog's behaviour through your own leadership behaviour.
Listening to your dog's messages to you - by observing their behaviour
and responding through canine communication - allows you to establish
yourself (and other people in the household) as leaders of your dog.
This
method can
dramatically help people succeed in communicating with dogs and
understanding why dogs do what they do ! If you can understand your dog
better, and communicate successfully, you can eliminate behaviours you
don't want, eg -
► excessive barking
► jumping up
► nervous aggression
► unsocial behaviour – at home or out &
about
► timidity and anxiety
Importantly, your dog
doesn't have to any of these problems to benefit from you understanding
how dogs communicate and understand leadership. You can also achieve
better results when training for obedience, trialling, agility or the
show ring. Even if your dog's main role is purely as your household
companion you can enhance your relationship by having a dog that is
happy, calm and confident in you as its leader - and relaxed with
visitors and other dogs.
The
power to truly
understand your dog, and establish a happy and loving relationship
based on mutual respect, can make a tremendous difference to the
quality and enjoyment of your life together. See client Feedback.
