Jan Fennell is well
known as the Dog Listener in the UK where she lives, and has spread the
word about the success of Dog Listening, and how to implement it,
around the world through the publication of five successful books,
numerous TV programs and public speaking appearances. She also oversees
the training of accredited Canine Communication Dog Listeners around
the world.
Jan’s
search
for a better way to work with dogs and eliminate harsh practises, began
in 1990, after she witnessed
Monty
Robert’s
amazing ability to communicate with ‘unbroken’
horses - saddling and riding them in under half an hour. Horse owners
around the world have wholeheartedly embraced this new knowledge of how
to gently, quickly and successfully introduce young horses to the
saddle and taken the cruel term “breaking in” a
horse progressively out of our vocabulary.
Jan
went on to study
wolves (see
Mission
Wolf)
and other wild dog behaviour in search of the same information for
improving our understanding of how canines communicate, and how this
could be put to practical use for pet dog owners and carers. Her goal
is the elimination of unsuitable, harsh and coercive practises still
widely used in the training and management of dogs. Jan’s
success has been her ability to explain canine communication principles
simply, and provide clear guidelines and activities for dog owners to
follow so we can enhance our relationships with dogs and help eliminate
undesirable canine behaviour.
Jan
travels regularly speaking on Dog Listening and improving communication
with other animals.
