Dog Listening differs from other training methods because it is a 'way of life' for you and your dog rather than a training methodology just aimed at the dog. It is based on observations of how wild dogs and wolves respond to the leadership of their male & female leaders in their natural pack environment. The idea being for you as owners to replicate that natural leadership and so be able to behave in ways that are meaningful for your dog to understand, and hence your dog is more likely to choose to follow your leadership willingly.. It is easy to do but requires patience and persistence. It is never too late to start and differing breeds all respond well - you will finally be communicating with your dog in a language they already understand! Having said this – it is not a 'miracle cure' and is sure to involve some hard work and rethinking of old habits, methods and beliefs, which can sometimes be quite challenging.
The key point of differentiation is that with this method, there is absolutely no use of fear-based, aggressive or dominance behaviour. There is also no use of force or violence (including no gadgets such as choker chains, restraint collars, electric collars or anti-barking collars). The aim is for owners to be calm, confident and in control at all times, and for dogs to be calm and relaxed; focused & responsive to instructions. Believe me, I can confirm the fact that it creates a much more relaxed and loving relationship for all concerned. Dog Listening can dramatically help people succeed in communicating with their dogs, and understanding why dogs do what they do ! If you can understand your dog better, and communicate successfully, you can eliminate behaviours you don't want, eg - ► excessive barking ► jumping up ► nervous aggression ► unsocial behaviour – at home, or out & about ► timidity and anxiety |
